The Source of the Nile Experience
Day 1: Cultural Wonders and the Source of the Nile
Your journey begins with a morning pickup from Kampala or Entebbe by your professional guide from Uganda Safari Bookings. The drive toward the east is a scenic introduction to the “Pearl of Africa,” passing through lush tea and sugar cane plantations. Your first stop is the mystical Sezibwa Falls, a site of great cultural importance to the Buganda Kingdom, where you will enjoy a guided nature walk and learn about the local legends of the twin rivers. Afterward, you will continue to the ancient Mabira Forest for a brief canopy walk or birdwatching session before arriving in Jinja town for a fresh tilapia lunch overlooking the water.
In the afternoon, you will head to the official Source of the Nile park for a private boat cruise on the world’s longest river. Your guide will take you to the exact point where the Nile water separates from Lake Victoria, a historic spot first confirmed by John Hanning Speke in 1858. You will visit the Mahatma Gandhi monument and enjoy the vibrant birdlife, including kingfishers and cormorants, that line the riverbanks. As the sun begins to set, you will check into your budget-friendly riverside lodge, where you can relax to the sounds of the flowing Nile and prepare for tomorrow’s adrenaline-filled activities.
Budget Accommodation: Jinja Nile Porch or 2 Friends Guest House.
Day 2: Adrenaline on the Nile and Untamed Waterfalls
After a hearty breakfast at your lodge, you have the option to choose your level of adventure for the morning. For thrill-seekers, we recommend a half-day white-water rafting experience through the world-famous Grade 5 rapids of the Nile. If you prefer something more relaxed, you can opt for tubing the Nile, where you float peacefully downstream in a large inflatable tube, or a quad biking safari through the local villages and farmlands along the riverbanks. These activities offer a unique way to interact with the local community while taking in the stunning landscape of the Nile valley.
Following your morning adventure, we will drive a short distance to the spectacular Busowoko or Itanda Falls. Unlike the more commercialized areas, these falls offer a raw and powerful look at the Nile’s rapids, often referred to as the “Untamed Nile.” You can enjoy a natural “water massage” at the edge of the rapids or simply relax with a picnic lunch while watching expert kayakers navigate the white water. In the late afternoon, your guide will begin the return journey to Kampala, making a stop at the famous “Namawojjolo” roadside market to sample local roasted plantain (Gonya) and chicken before arriving back at your residence.
